Digestive Support Smoothie

Our digestive health is so important yet it’s often overlooked due to the temptation of many fast saturated fat and sugar laden foods. If you’re feeling bloated, sluggish, or low in energy whipping up this nutrient packed smoothie could be a good start towards some digestive relief.

The smoothie contains only 5 simple ingredients which in itself is easy on digestion…

The yoghurt offers gut friendly live bacteria known as probiotics. Mint helps to calm any stomach upsets as well as providing a fresh taste. Volatile oil compounds in fennel tea may help relax the lining of the digestive tract and assist in the reduction of bloating. Mild and refreshing cucumber is an ideal mineral-rich addition helping to promote an alkaline inner environment for optimal system functionality. The inclusion of a pear may help prevent constipation. Pear is high in fibre for a fruit and contains potassium which is necessary for regulating water balance.

1 mug of cooled fennel tea (using either the ground seeds or good quality tea bags)

¼ of a medium cucumber

1 large pear

2 heaped tbsps of fresh mint leaves

2 tbsps of plain full fat yogurt (e.g. greek)



Combine all the ingredients in a blender adding the 1 – 2 cups of cooled fennel tea until at desired consistency.  Aim to drink the smoothie immediately for highest nutrient availability.

Savour the taste to kick start the digestive enzymes. This will help prepare the stomach and intestines for the rest of the processing.
